Course modules:
below is an overview and the precise information may change on the live course.

Coaching as a Practice

In this section, we outline what is ‘coaching’ and how it differs from other disciplines. We examine coaching ethics and widely accepted codes of conduct surrounding coaching practice. We look at how to professionalise your coaching activities into a career and how to work with others in a professional capacity.

Coaching Foundations

We go through what ICF coaching looks like and how to meet professional ICF standards. We examine coaching attitudes and best practices, and how our approach to coaching affects our communication when interacting.

Listening Methodologies

We will delve into active listening skills and unpack a variety of ways to listen to both the content and the deeper meanings people portray with their words. We outline how non-verbal communication is a central aspect to effective listening. You will practice a variety of listening methods and also learn how it feels as a coachee.

Questioning Practices

Powerful questioning is a real artform that requires several skills. We examine how questioning may differ in different contexts and how we can be challenging, supportive, explorative, leading, and insightful through questioning. You will be able to trial different questioning techniques and refine your questioning skills.

The Coaching Relationship

Managing the coaching relationship is essential no matter whether we are using coaching skills as a leader, manager, or coach; we outline what this means and the principles that underpin a successful coaching relationship. We study how to build trust and competence in the relationship to create safe and impactful interactions. We cover several aspects such as group coaching, true learning, absorbing and giving feedback.

Brain & Behaviour

We examine some of the neuroscience and psychology surrounding the brain and behaviour. We highlight how to work with interventions and methodologies that target both our brain and body simultaneously. We uncover how to encompass embodied cognition in your practice and how to utilise fundamental understandings of how we are wired to act and behave.

Working with Needs, Values & Motivation

In this section, we will examine key motivational theories, established human needs, and how values drive much of what we do. Furthermore, we look at how to work with this information in a coaching session. We examine how we can help people become more aligned, more motivated, and fulfil their own needs. Based on these principles, we learn how to use anchors to prioritise personal leadership and own their mindset.

Professional Coaching

Using coaching professionally comes with certain responsibilities. We detail all the main professional processes you will need to become a coach such as: rapport, mentoring, supervision, managing session times, conducting sessions, contracting, note taking, how to start and end the coaching relationship, and how to manage and be accountable for coaching authority.

Coaching & Stress

The course covers how humans deal and react to stress. We will look at what this means for coaching, how to help people out of embedded reactions, and how to conduct a session out of ‘survival’ mode. We delve into stress theories, stressor interventions, and a variety of practical coaching tools.

Managing Thoughts within the Coaching Session

In this section, we cover topics on mindfulness, meditation, ACT, REBT, CBT, and other thought management techniques. We examine how to coach people through thought detachment, thought identity and thought diffusion. We also look at what this means for us as coaches and how to ensure our thoughts are not biasing the session.

Positive Psychology Applications for Coaching

In this section, we give a comprehensive background of positive psychology and associated practices towards coaching. We cover key concepts such as flow, humanistic approaches, and many others. We will practice a range of interventions to help people change through positive psychological techniques. We delve into coaching self-determination theory, goal setting, empowering the client, reframing through questioning, and much more.

Raising Awareness of Underlying Patterns

Successful coaching helps people understand the underlying meaning behind their rhetoric, and the patterns of thinking and behaviour that lead to their actions and felt reality. We therefore spend a lot of time on coaching awareness, identifying beliefs, removing limiting beliefs, creating new beliefs, coaching at different psychological levels, and helping the client become aware of why they do what they do.

Written Expanded Learning

Alongside the live training you will be asked to produce a piece of written content in an area of your choosing. It is a chance to expand your learning, build a specialist niche, and explore in depth an area that can help your future.

Group Feedback

Over the course you will receive hours of group feedback to help you grow and develop. You will also be trained on how to give and receive feedback to ensure feedback effectiveness.

Mentoring Feedback

Throughout the course you will receive both verbal and written feedback on your practice as a coach. This is an opportunity to be challenged, grow, clear up ambiguities, and refine your skills in a safe and explorative manner.

Emotions & Coaching Change

Throughout the course we will be working with how to resolve and manage emotions. We will delve into the RULER approach and other techniques to improve emotional intelligence and competence.

Coaching Patterns of Resistance

In this section, we look at the usual generic hurdles that limit people to change and grow such as adapted egos, ego states, scripts, discounting, anxiety, depression, primal wounds, trauma, personalities and archetypes, codependency, and so on. We will examine what to do when these scenarios present themselves and how to differentiate between them.

Coaching Boundaries & Interventions

Coaching boundaries is an important aspect to assist self-leadership, safe growth, and empowerment. We examine what emotional and mental boundaries entail, when to use them, how to use them, and how we can intervene to help the client. We also go into Heron Categories, Motivational Interviewing, Identifying Obstacles, and many other forms of interventions.

Practicing Coaching Interventions

In the course we will dedicate time to practice facilitating interventions. You will learn to identify multi-dimensional reactions during interventions and practice coaching multi-dimensionally to facilitate powerful interventions. You will learn to facilitate interventions such as: integration of parts, many minds, timeline coaching, imposter syndrome interventions, Gestalt coaching practices, and much more. You will become competent in picking which intervention is best suited for certain presenting issues and receive a suggestive go-to framework of what to use when, to help you in the early days.

Coaching Types

We will examine a variety of coaching domains and how to function within them, including and not limited to, coaching towards wholeness, life coaching, team coaching, facilitation, organisational coaching, and leadership coaching.

We will also examine and refine what style and type of coach you want to become. We will work to build your vision towards your future coaching, or how you intend to use your newfound coaching skills.

Practicing Creativity in Coaching

Time will be dedicated to practicing creative coaching techniques. Often impactful coaching sessions rely on creative interventions and processes to help clients see a different perspective, process their thoughts, or find insights into the situation. We will practice and examine how to develop creative processes in coaching.

Ongoing Competencies and Requirements in Coaching

We will look ahead to your reality as a professional coach and what you need to do to stay current, what continued professional development looks like, what supervisory involvement is necessary, what continued training on coaching competencies are advised, and how to align yourself with credibility and increasing competence.

Building your Coaching Career Skills

We also delve into important career skills for coaches such as how to speak publicly, how to professionalise your coaching sessions, and identify the common pitfalls and successes new coaches experience. We will examine how to market yourself as a coach, develop an action plan to build your future and lay out how you will use these skills moving forwards.
